What Is Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.)?

D.E. is a naturally occurring soft, sedimentary rock coming in the form of sand. It is made from the fossilised remains of microscopic aquatic creatures called diatoms also known as skeletons of algae that have been fossilised for millions of years. This product has been mined for decades and nowadays it has numerous industrial applications.

The diatoms in D.E. are made from a chemical compound called silica which can be mainly found in nature as a component of sand and rocks. Practice shows that D. Earts is a concentrated source of silica, containing somewhere between 80-90% of it. Aside from silica, this product also contains trace minerals and small amounts of iron oxide (rust).
